Not All Oils Are Equal

At Express Oil, we only use new oil from Valvoline, Mobil 1, and Castrol, etc. What we mean by "new" is that some of our competitors use "recycled oil". This may sound environmentally good but it could do irreparable harm to your engine. When we change your oil, the old oil we drain out goes into a tank that is pumped out to recycle companies. They take this dirty oil and try to clean it up. This is not good as "new" oil contains the correct amount of additives for the specific oil type of oil. Recycled oil is a mix of many types of oil. When this oil is re-packaged it may not contain the correct additives, may not have all of the harmful chemicals removed, and may not be filtered completely. You just don't know. These brands claim that it is just as good as new oil.

So how do I know what I am getting? First ask! Then ask to see the container and read the whole label. Recycled oil will be indicated somewhere on the label. Don't be fooled by containers of new oil in view. You need to know what is being put into your engine. Most large oil change shops use bulk oil that comes from a bulk tank. However, they should have smaller containers of the same oil with the label. As an example, Kendall Oil makes a recycled oil. Please read the label! You can go to an auto parts store and read the label there because they only sell containerized oil. This is why some shops charge an unrealistically low price for oil changes since these shops pay less for recycled oil.
